A plain-English guide.
Linen
Woven from flax, a bast fibre native to Europe. The long-staple variety we use is grown in Normandy and Picardy, stonewashed for softness, and sold at 200 gsm — mid-weight. Linen gets softer and more draped with use; it is not wearing out. Wash cold, low heat, no fabric softener.
Egyptian cotton
Long-staple cotton grown around Alexandria. The higher thread counts (our sateen is 400 TC) mean a silkier hand and crisper press. Machine wash at 40°C.
Turkish cotton
Aegean cotton woven in Denizli. 700 gsm on our bath range gives the plush-without-heavy hand we prefer. Softens noticeably after two washes.
Portuguese stoneware
High-fired (1,240°C) clay with lead-free glaze, made in Caldas da Rainha. Chip-resistant; dishwasher safe on gentle cycle. Our reactive glazes produce speckle variation — that's expected, not a defect.
Solid brass
Not brass-plated. We use solid brushed brass for hooks, frames, bookends, and flatware handles. It oxidises to a warmer tone over time; if you prefer a bright finish, buff with a dry microfibre. Avoid polishing compounds.
FSC-certified oak
European oak from chain-of-custody certified forests. Oil-finished with food-safe mineral oil. Re-oil every 8–12 weeks if used daily for food contact.
